In this third edition of the Yearbook, it analyses the processes of negotiation that have taken place in the whole world during the course of 2008, where we find the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Also, it is possible to consult Alert 2009, report on conflicts, human rights and construction of peace.

Amesty International Report 2009. State of the world’s human rights

We emphasize: “An upsurge of armed conflict deepened the human rights and humanitarian crisis in North Kivu province, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The violence was marked by war crimes and other serious human rights violations by armed groups and government forces. These included the killing and abduction of civilians, widespread rape and other forms of sexual violence, and the recruitment and use of children as armed group fighters. By the end of the year, one in four of the population of North Kivu was displaced by conflict. Ethnic and inter-communal tensions rose in other areas. Army, police and intelligence services across the country were responsible for serious and often politically motivated human rights violations. Democratic Republic of the Congo. North Kivu: No end to war on women and children. Amnesty International. 2008

This new report treats the children's recruiting, as well as the physical and sexual violence that women and children keep on suffering in this region of the country. The report does recommendations directed to the armed groups, to the government of the country and to the international community with the target to finish the violations committed against the human rights.
